Artist Description:

The Sirenas are water spirits in Filipino folklore that are human from the top half their body and have a fish tail from the waist down. They have many names based on different regions of the Philippines, such as Magindara (Bikolano), Kataw (Visayan), Mambubuno (Visayan). Their stories also vary, and are either known to be benevolent creatures to offer protection for fishermen or are malevolent spirits who drown or kidnap their victims. 

For this collection, I wanted to tap into the energy of the Sirena as shadow work. To bring up deep wounds I've kept hidden for so long and bring them to the surface. Process them, understand them, and navigate the emotional turmoil I wasn't capable of working through at the time they happened. 

Not gonna lie, I still struggle with speaking my truth, I still fear rejection, and I still feel shame when trying to call in my desires. But by acknowledging the hard emotions, the Sirena is helping me uncover the power I didn't know I had.

These art pieces are a result of transmuting so much of my pain into empowerment and they serve as a reminder to be unapologetically me.
