My mom has told me so many stories about the dwende and other trickster spirits that have messed with her, and she told me that the way to appease them is by offering sweet rice cakes (kakanin).\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eIn this piece, I wanted it to be a more cozy, autumn setting, so I drew the character with her cat. Ant hills are some of the dwelling places these land spirits live in, so drawing the kakanin next to it is a way for the character to remain undisturbed while being in their space.
