The Bakunawa is a dragon-like creature in Filipino mythology that is also known as the "Moon-eater." It's believed that there used to be 7 moons, and the Bakunawa successfully ate 6 of them. When it attempted to eat the 7th moon, our ancestors would then bang drums or pots and pans to scare the Bakunawa in order to spit the Moon back out. This is how some of our Filipino pre-colonial ancestors explained the celestial event of the Lunar Eclipse.
